Spring means getting outside, doing more outdoor activities and running across wildlife that you may not see very often.
Being outdoors also means getting bit by mosquitoes and stung by bees.
The folks here at Light Outdoors knows what it is like to get stung, unfortunately we know a lot about what it’s like to get stung. Too damned much to be exact.
I saw this little meme on facebook and thought I would share it here, although it doesn’t cover all the bees that you will meet it does accurately describe the little yellow jacket at the bottom.
Now here in Alabama you have several other bees and wasps that will sting you (in fact the yellow jacket is actually a wasp more akin to the hornet.
But here you have brown wasps, red wasps, guinea wasps (they look like a souped up version of the yellow jacket and have an even nastier attitude), You have hornets, sand hornets, good news bees, red velvet ants, and fire ants as well that will light you up.
If you have allergies to bee stings then you know how deadly they can be so make sure you carry an epipen, even if you don’t have allergic reactions to stings they are still painful enough. For me it’s the big brown wasps we have around here. Some people it’s hornets.
Either way here is a great product that helps numb the area and relieve the pain and itching of bee stings.
I haven’t had to use it yet, but I know several people that have and they swear by it. In act why take our word for it;
Check out this video from the guys at Brave Wilderness and while you are at it be sure and subscribe to their channel for some interesting and informative videos.
Those guys do a lot to advance wildlife and Coyote Peterson takes a lot of bites, stings and other injuries to show you what to expect when or if it should happen to you.
I left out there are certain caterpillars that sting as well and they can hurt worse than some of the bees you will meet.
For more information on stinging insects in Alabama you can click here and see what I mean.
P.S. according to this site the guinea wasp I mentioned appears to be called a paper wasp. Either way a rose by any other name will still sting the crap out of you.
Thanks for visiting Light Outdoors and have a great day.
