Sitting at home today sick as a dog. Thought I would update the old blog.
Good news is the telescopes I ordered have finally arrived so I can start some astronomy, bad news is as mentioned I am sick as a dog so I will have to wait a while.
Even if I were not sick (as a dog) I still would not be able to use the scopes due to the stupid weather we are having right now. I think the next clear night is scheduled for March 4 2019 or something like that.
The scopes I got are a Dobsonian and a refractor. The Dobsonian (named for John Dobson the inventor of the Dobsonian mounting system used in a lot of larger reflector scopes), is a Skyquest xt8 by Orion you can see more about them by checking out http://telescope.com.
The refractor (the scope that most people think about when they think of the word telescope) is a Celestron Powerseeker 80EQ you can see more about it by checking out http://celestron.com.
Buying a scope was an experience for me, sure I’ve bought rifle scopes and spotting scopes before but nothing to hunt galaxies and deep space objects with.
Hopefully in the future I will be able to post a few updates with some info of what I have seen and possibly some pictures as well. I figure I will take it one step at a time and learn about the scopes and how to spot what is out there before I start worrying about astrophotography.
If anyone that happens to read this is into astronomy and has some tips for a beginner be sure to comment below.
